Cars Ford Sierra were made since June, 1982 till February, 1993 and two updatings had. Cars Ford Sierra of the first generation (designated Sierra ' 83) were made till December, 1986, and cars Ford Sierra of the second generation (Sierra ' 87) – since January, 1987.

Cars Ford Sierra ' 83 which have replaced Taunus, had modern bodies with very good aerodynamic parametres (factor of aerodynamic resistance сх = 0,34), highly appreciated by users, both versions a limousine, and Kombi. In cars Sierra ' 83 possibility of application of several different petrol engines, as made earlier, however modernised and specially adapted for the new car, and absolutely new design is provided. Petrol 4 cylinder engines of cars Sierra ' 83 (engines ONS) had a cam-shaft in a head of the block of cylinders and were delivered in following versions: 1,3 дм3 (1,3 NANOSECONDS capacity of 44 kw), 1,6 дм3 (1,6 NANOSECONDS capacity of 55 kw) – in two versions (economic with the electronic built in system of ignition and normal), and also 2,0 дм3 (2,0 NANOSECONDS capacity of 77 kw). Besides, in petrol models V-shaped six-cylinder engines were alternatively offered:
2,0 дм3 capacity of 66 kw (under special orders), 2,3 дм3 capacity of 66 kw, and also 2,8 дм3 capacity of 84 kw (intended only for model XR4).

Cars Ford Sierra ' 83 Diesel were equipped with the diesel engine of firm Peugeot specially adapted for car Ford Sierra (type YTT). This engine with working volume 2304 sm3 develops capacity of 49 kw (67 h.p.) at 4200 rpm.

Since February, 1985 in bodies of all diesel versions the air inlet of version Ghia is established.

In January, 1987 there is begun release of the second generation of cars Sierra ' 87 in which body the set of changes directed on appearance improvement is entered, and also there was a new version of a body – a three-volume four-door Sedan which supplements the former offer of diesel versions covering five-door berlin and Kombi. Cars Ford Sierra ' 87 still (till September, 1989) were equipped with the engine 2,3 Diesel (type YTR). Only since August, 1988 in some countries have started to offer, at first it is alternative, the engine 1,8 Turbo Diesel (type RFA or RFB) which since October, 1989 remained the only thing for all diesel versions of cars Ford Sierra till the end of their release.

In cars Ford Sierra ' 83 various transmissions (mechanical four- and five-step or automatic Ford–Bordeaux), a drive on the back wheels, an independent forward suspension bracket and back semiindependent, and also the back bridge, with the main transfer together with differential were established.

Three versions of furnish and car equipment (L, GL, and also Ghia) were originally offered. Version Ghia had the best equipment, differed also an exterior (absence of the cross-section sheets complicating giving of air in a motor compartment, and also double forward headlights).
