3.1.4. Changes in a design of the car with 1987 to 1989

THE GENERAL DATA

This section concerns only the changes entered into designs of cars Ford Sierra with four-cylinder petrol engines from model 1987 to model 1989.

Technical characteristics, and also the description of adjustments and repair which are not subject to changes, are in the previous sections.

MODELS 1987

In second half of 1986 two special variants have been entered: Laser and Laser Touring, different equipment. In both variants engines ONS 1,6 or 1,8 дм³ and four-speed transmissions are applied.

In January, 1987 there is begun manufacturing of the second generation of cars Ford Sierra. In a body of cars Sierra of fashions. 87 new stylisation переда is entered. The cowl falls to level of a forward bumper and covers complex headlights with the big glasses of forward indexes of turns. The windscreen surface is increased also, improving, thus, a field of the review of the driver.

In the doorway of models of the second generation lateral strengthening is entered.
The model scale is expanded, adding to two-volume bodies (five-door a berlin, five-door комби and three-door a compartment) a variant with three-volume four-door (sedan) a body with a separate luggage carrier.

Cars Sierra of fashions. 87 are offered with petrol engines ONS: 1,6 дм³ (55 kw), 1,8 дм³ (66 kw), 2,0 дм³ carburettor (77 kw) and 2,0 дм³ with fuel injection (85 kw).

MODELS 1988

In January, 1988 version Sierra GT, with the limited number of copies, with the engine 2,0 дм³ capacity of 77 kw is entered at 5200 rpm.

Characteristic features of this version were: the opened hatch, the blacked out glasses, an external rear-view mirror it is painted under colour of a body, and also lateral strengthenings falling to a bottom of doors.

In May, 1988 instead of engine ONS 1,8 дм³ engine CVH 1,8 дм³ by capacity of 66 kw is established at 5250 rpm.

The characteristic features of this engine distinguishing it from engines ONS, are: the distributor of ignition established horizontally on the forward end of a cam-shaft, and also карбюракарбюратор, located on the right party of the engine (depending on a movement direction).

MODELS 1989

In December, 1988 the new five-step mechanical transmission of type МТ 75 is established. It has картер from an easy alloy instead of pig-iron, and its design has been essentially changed in comparison with earlier established transmission.

In April, 1989 new engine DOHC 2,0 дм³ with two cam-shafts in a head of the block of cylinders with the name "TWIN-CAM" is entered.

4 – the index of level of oil, 5 – a stopper of a jellied aperture of oil, 6 – the air filter, 7 – the identification tablet of the car

In this engine can be used as этилированный (in the version without the catalyst of exhaust gases), and неэтилированный gasoline. With the carburettor it develops capacity of 66 kw, and at use of injection of fuel Ford Motorcraft EFI – capacity of 92 kw.
