1.7. Engine start

THE GENERAL DATA

The switch of ignition with steering wheel blocking

The ignition switch is connected to steering wheel blocking. Is on the right side of a steering column.

The key in the ignition switch can occupy four designated positions:

About – ignition is switched off, the steering wheel is blocked; for разблокирования a steering wheel it is necessary to insert a key and to turn it clockwise, slightly turning a wheel to the right and to the left for simplification of an exit of a blocking stopper;

I – ignition is switched off, the steering wheel is unblocked; in this position it is possible to include an automobile radio receiver;

II – ignition is included, all electric chains запитаны; in case of towage of the car the key should be established in this position (it is impossible to leave for a long time a key in this position at the idle engine as it can lead to failure of the coil of ignition);

III – the starter is included; key turn in this position demands overcoming of resistance of a returnable spring. The key does not remain in this position. After easing of rotary effort itself comes back in position "II" (the starter is switched off).

The prevention

The mechanism of the switch of ignition does not give possibility to include a starter at the working engine (it threatens with damage of a starter and a gear wreath on an engine flywheel). For starter inclusion it is necessary to turn at first a key in position "I" (and consequently to switch off ignition and the engine if it worked) and again to turn a key in position "III".

Start of the cold engine

For check of a thermal condition of the engine it is necessary to turn the ignition key in position "I" and after approximately 30 seconds to look at the index of temperature of a cooling liquid. If its arrow remained in extreme left position the engine cold and it should be started how is described more low. If the engine warm, it is necessary to follow the instructions resulted more low.

During start of the engine the manual brake should be tightened, and the gear change lever should be in neutral position.

In cars with a mechanical transmission before starter inclusion it is necessary to press a coupling pedal against the stop and to hold it in this position.

To include a starter. If the engine is not started within 10 seconds to turn a key in position "I", to wait some seconds and again to include a starter. The prevention During engine start it is not necessary to press an accelerator pedal. 3. If the engine still is not started, to wait about 10 seconds and then to arrive according to the instructions resulted more low. 4. After engine start at once to weaken effort to a key, which itself will return to position "II".

THE ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH OTHER TYPES OF CARBURETTORS WITH THE AUTOMATIC STARTING ARRANGEMENT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. For start of the automatic starting arrangement of the carburettor it is necessary to squeeze out slowly two times completely an accelerator pedal (against the stop) and freely to release it. 2. To include a starter (a key in position "III". If the engine is not started within 10 seconds it is necessary to turn a key in position "I", to wait some seconds and once again to include a starter. The prevention During starter start it is not necessary to press an accelerator pedal. 3. After three unsuccessful attempts of start of the engine it is necessary to wait about 10 seconds and to arrive according to the instructions resulted more low. 4. After engine start at once to weaken effort to a key, which itself will return to position "II". 5. If the started engine decays, it is necessary to repeat actions on engine start, at first slowly having pressed and having released an accelerator pedal.

THE ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH OTHER TYPES OF CARBURETTORS WITH THE STARTING ARRANGEMENT, OPERATED MANUALLY

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. To extend against the stop the lever of the starting arrangement of the carburettor. Once slowly to press and release an accelerator pedal (not to press it later in the course of engine start). 2. To include a starter (a key in position "III". If the engine is not started within 10 seconds it is necessary to turn a key in position "I", to wait some seconds and once again to include a starter. The prevention During starter start it is not necessary to press an accelerator pedal. 3. If after the second attempt the engine is not started, it is necessary to wait about 10 seconds and to arrive according to the instructions resulted more low. 4. After engine start at once to weaken effort to a key, which itself will return to position "II". In process of engine warming up gradually to move the lever of the starting arrangement of the carburettor, providing uniform work of the engine. Start of the warm petrol engine. 5. To press a pedal of an accelerator to half of its course and to keep it in this position. 6. To include a starter. After engine start at once to weaken efforts to a key and to an accelerator pedal. 7. If the engine is not started after three attempts most likely it is filled in by fuel (in its cylinders there is a mix too enriched by fuel).

Start of the warm petrol engine

Slowly to press an accelerator pedal against the stop, to keep it in this position and to include a starter. After engine start it is necessary to weaken slowly effort to a pedal of an accelerator in process of increase in number of turns of the engine.

Start of the diesel engine

1. To turn the ignition key in position "II". The control bulb of inclusion свеч накаливания lights up. 2. To wait, the control bulb of inclusion свеч накаливания will not go out yet. 3. To press against the stop an accelerator pedal. The prevention At low ambient temperatures for simplification of start before starter inclusion it is necessary to press a coupling pedal to disconnect the transmission containing thickened oil. 4. To include a starter. 5. If the engine is not started within nearby 20 seconds it is necessary to turn a key in position "I", to wait a little and to repeat engine start. The prevention In case of impossibility of start of the engine because of absence of fuel, after filling of a tank with fuel it is necessary to remove air from fuel system (subsection 2.8 see).

Start of the engine by means of the additional accumulator

Connection of the additional accumulator for engine start

1–4 – an order of connection of wires.

If the car accumulator is discharged, it is possible to start the engine, having connected other, charged accumulator.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. To connect the plug () the additional accumulator () to the plug () the accumulator of the car by means of a special starting wire (corresponding section). 2. To connect plugs (-) both accumulators the second starting wire. The prevention At first it is necessary to connect wires to the additional accumulator in avoidance искрения in case of a casual touch the wire plug to weight of the car. 3. It is not necessary to disconnect the additional accumulator at once after engine start when it works on the raised turns of idling. It is necessary to wait, while the engine will not heat up and will not start to work on normal turns of idling.
